
The mere fact that a student has been admitted into a study program at San Institute does not guarantee graduation. The Institute has set out minimum graduation requirements that every student must fulfill. Therefore, for any student to qualify for graduation from San Institute, they must meet these conditions as spelt out in our policies.
To qualify for graduation, a student must have attended the right academic program that he/she applied for and for which he/she was admitted. No student shall be allowed to graduate for a program they were never admitted to.
Every study program has core course units or modules. These are the mandatory course units or modules that every student pursuing the study program must take. For a student to qualify for graduation, they must have passed all the core course units or modules for the academic/study program.
Some study programs have elective course units or modules. These are optional course units or modules from which a student has to choose a given number. As one of the graduation requirements, a student must pass all the elective course units or modules they chose and registered for in order to qualify for graduation.
Every academic program has a minimum graduation load. This is the minimum number of credit units (CUs) that must be attained by a student to qualify for graduation. Every student must meet the minimum graduation load for a specific academic program to qualify for graduation for that particular program.
The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) is the overall grade point score obtained by a student for a given study program. It’s calculated as a sum of the products of individual grade points (GPs) and credit units (CUs) for each of the course units or modules attended divided by the sum of credit units for all the course units or modules attended.
As one of the graduation requirements, a student must obtain the minimum CGPA spelt out in the Institute’s Examination and Graduation policies. At the time of this article, the minimum CGPA for a student to graduate in any academic program at San Institute is 3.0.
We encourage students to keep track of their CGPA right from the first semester of their study program, and contact the office of the Academic Registrar (AR) in case they need any clarifications.
On a daily basis, we record and measure students’ attendance to lessons/lectures. Whether day, evening or weekend, physical or online, students must attend classes. This is because we use it as a criteria for graduation.
At the time of this article, the minimum lesson/lecture attendance to qualify for graduation is 90%. Therefore, a student must attend at least 90% of all lessons and/or lectures that constitute the study program for them to qualify for graduation in such a program of study.
For a student to qualify for graduation, they must have cleared all fees payable to the institute. This includes tuition, functional fees as well as the mandatory graduation fee. Therefore, no student shall be allowed to graduate before competing all payments due.
Every student must get clearance from all departments prior to graduation. This is to ensure that the student doesn’t owe the institute anything before they are allowed to graduate.
The list above constitutes the minimum graduation requirements for San Institute of Computing, Management and Information Science. Therefore, every student is encouraged to ensure they meet them to avoid any inconveniences that the student may suffer on the graduation day. Ensuring that you meet these minimum graduation requirements helps us have a smooth graduation process.
