Institute of Computing, Management and Information Science invites applications from suitably qualified, competent, and motivated individuals to fill the position of ICT Laboratory Assistant.
Job Purpose
The ICT Laboratory Assistant shall support the day-to-day operations of the Institute’s computer laboratories by assisting students and tutors during practical sessions, maintaining an organized laboratory environment, monitoring the use of ICT resources, and ensuring that laboratory equipment is available and ready for use.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist tutors in preparing computer laboratories for practical lessons, assessments, and examinations.
- Ensure that computers and related equipment are switched on, functional, and ready for use before classes.
- Monitor student use of laboratory facilities and ensure compliance with laboratory rules and procedures.
- Provide basic assistance to students during practical sessions and laboratory activities.
- Report faulty equipment, software issues, and network problems to the relevant supervisor.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory inventories and equipment records.
- Ensure the cleanliness, safety, and security of computer laboratories and ICT equipment.
- Assist in arranging and organizing laboratory equipment, materials, and resources.
- Support the administration of computer-based examinations and assessments.
- Assist in maintaining laboratory records and documentation as required.
- Support the implementation of laboratory policies and procedures.
- Perform any other duties assigned by the Principal or immediate supervisor from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications
- Certificate in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Applications, Software Engineering, or a related field from a recognized institution; or Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education with a good grade in Subsidiary ICT at A’Level or Computer Studies at O’Level.
- Practical experience in the use of computer applications and ICT systems will be an added advantage.

- Basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, operating systems, and computer applications.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to assist students and staff in a professional and courteous manner.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of integrity, responsibility, and attention to detail.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to emerging technologies and institutional needs.
- Previous experience in a computer laboratory, ICT support environment, or educational institution will be an added advantage.
