The Assistant Director of the Center for Business Incubation and Enterprise Development (CBIED) provides strategic and operational leadership in nurturing entrepreneurship, innovation, and business growth at San Institute of Computing, Management, and Information Science (SICMIS). Working under the supervision of the Director of Engagement, Research, and Innovation, the Assistant Director oversees incubation programs, startup acceleration, enterprise development initiatives, and innovation-driven entrepreneurship. The role bridges the gap between research, innovation, and business development by transforming creative ideas into sustainable enterprises.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Assistant Director, Center for Business Incubation and Enterprise Development

The Assistant Director of the Center for Business Incubation and Enterprise Development at San Institute of Computing, Management and Information Science performs the following functions, among others:

1. Strategic and Operational Leadership

  • Provide leadership in planning, implementing, and monitoring the Center’s business incubation and enterprise development activities.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans, operational frameworks, and performance indicators for the CBIED.
  • Align the Center’s programs with the Institute’s innovation and entrepreneurship goals.
  • Coordinate the establishment of incubation policies, selection criteria, and support models for startups.

2. Startup and Enterprise Development

  • Support the incubation of innovative ideas, startups, and spin-off enterprises from staff and students.
  • Facilitate mentoring, coaching, and technical assistance to early-stage entrepreneurs.
  • Guide incubatees in developing viable business plans, prototypes, and market entry strategies.
  • Provide post-incubation support, including access to financing, partnerships, and business scaling opportunities.
  • Promote entrepreneurship as a career pathway for graduates and innovators.

3. Innovation Commercialization and Technology Transfer

  • Promote the commercialization of research and innovation outputs generated at San Institute.
  • Coordinate patenting, licensing, and intellectual property protection processes.
  • Establish linkages between innovators, investors, and industry partners.
  • Support technology transfer initiatives and public–private partnership programs.
  • Facilitate the creation of innovation-driven enterprises that contribute to national and regional development.

4. Capacity Building and Training

  • Organize entrepreneurship, innovation management, and business development training for students, faculty, and entrepreneurs.
  • Collaborate with schools and departments to integrate entrepreneurship education into academic programs.
  • Conduct workshops, bootcamps, and hackathons focused on startup growth and innovation.
  • Build capacity in business leadership, financial literacy, and digital entrepreneurship.

5. Partnerships and Networking

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with government agencies, development partners, and private sector organizations.
  • Collaborate with financial institutions, venture capital firms, and angel investors to support startups.
  • Represent the Center in local and international business incubation networks and forums.
  • Build strategic alliances that enhance the visibility and impact of the Center’s programs.

6. Resource Mobilization and Fund Management

  • Mobilize resources and funding for incubation and enterprise development programs.
  • Manage grants, sponsorships, and donor-funded initiatives within the Center.
  • Ensure transparent utilization of funds and compliance with institutional and donor requirements.
  • Support preparation of financial and project reports for submission to the Director ERI and management.

7. Monitoring, Evaluation, and Reporting

  • Establish monitoring and evaluation mechanisms for all incubation and enterprise programs.
  • Track progress and performance of incubated startups and enterprises.
  • Prepare periodic progress and impact reports for the Director ERI, Principal, and Governing Council.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of innovators, startups, and business partners.

8. Outreach, Publicity, and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Promote awareness of the Center’s services, programs, and success stories.
  • Organize innovation expos, startup fairs, and public engagement events.
  • Develop promotional materials and maintain the Center’s online and social media presence.
  • Engage with the community to identify business opportunities and innovation challenges.

In fulfilling these duties, the Assistant Director of the Center for Business Incubation and Enterprise Development plays a pivotal role in advancing San Institute’s innovation and entrepreneurship agenda. The position ensures that innovative ideas are transformed into viable, impactful enterprises — contributing to socio-economic transformation and fulfilling the Institute’s vision of being a Center of Academic and Professional Excellence in Computing, Research, and Innovation.
