The Deputy Principal (Academics) serves as the chief assistant to the Principal in all matters related to academic affairs. This office provides leadership and oversight for the design, coordination, and implementation of the institute’s academic programs, ensuring that they meet the highest standards of quality, innovation, and relevance.

The Deputy Principal (Academics) works closely with deans, heads of departments, lecturers, and other academic staff to advance teaching, research, and learning excellence across all schools and disciplines.

Roles, Duties and Responsibilities of the Deputy Principal (Academics)

The Deputy Principal in charge of Academics at San Institute of Computing, Management and Information Science performs the following roles, duties and responsibilities:

1. Academic Leadership and Coordination

  • Assist the Principal in providing academic leadership across all schools, departments, and programs.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evaluation of academic programs to ensure quality and relevance.
  • Ensure academic policies, procedures, and regulations are properly implemented and adhered to.

2. Curriculum Development and Review

  • Coordinate the periodic review and development of curricula to align with emerging trends, accreditation standards, and industry needs.
  • Promote innovative teaching and learning methods, including the use of ICT and e-learning platforms.
  • Supervise the development of new academic programs and proposals.

3. Quality Assurance

  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance Unit to ensure high standards of teaching, learning, and assessment.
  • Oversee internal and external moderation of examinations.
  • Monitor academic performance indicators and initiate improvements.

4. Research, Innovation, and Publications

  • Promote research, publications, and innovation among staff and students.
  • Facilitate linkages with research institutions, industries, and funding agencies.
  • Supervise research dissemination through seminars, conferences, and journals.

5. Examinations and Assessment

  • Oversee all matters related to examinations, grading, and results processing.
  • Ensure the integrity and confidentiality of the examination process.
  • Chair or coordinate the Examination Board and ensure timely release of results.

6. Academic Staff Development

  • Identify staff training and professional development needs.
  • Encourage mentorship, continuous learning, and performance evaluation among academic staff.
  • Support recruitment and induction of academic staff.

7. Student Academic Affairs

  • Oversee student admission, registration, progression, and graduation processes.
  • Handle academic grievances, appeals, and disciplinary cases related to academics.
  • Ensure academic support services such as counseling, guidance, and tutoring are available.

8. Collaboration and Partnerships

  • Coordinate academic partnerships, exchange programs, and collaborations with other institutions and professional bodies.
  • Promote internationalization and inter-institutional academic linkages.

9. Reporting and Advisory Role
